Hermès Fortunio

Categories:Other Brands

IMAGE: @WALNUTCRUST FOR HERMÈS

This bright cheery clutch from Hermes is an all-new bag (well, not exactly new since it is claimed that this design was inspired by another previously released in the 30s) that features a V-shaped clasp that actually looks like a fortune cookie if you ask us. Is that maybe why it is called the Fortunio?

And with the first colour launched in Orange Poppy (which in our opinion is the perfect shade for this summery June), the 29.5 cm by 19.6 cm Evercolor leather clutch is also rather sizeable so it will pretty much fit most of your everyday essentials within the two inner compartments, with space for a small notebook and writing materials for jotting down important notes (or sketching images) on the go.

This clutch has yet to hit our local stores, so stay tuned for more information. Otherwise, you could check the Hermès stores overseas if you’re travelling, where it retails at USD5900.

Hermes Birkin Bag with No Waitlist!

Categories:Other Brands

hermes_sellier-birkin40Having already witnessed the minimalist beauty that is the Birkin40 2.0 (that’s what I’m calling it for now anyway) in early February, it’s time for a worthy update courtesy of Cathy Horyn of T Magazine. According to her, the pared-down no-lining Sellier Birkin 40 is also extra-wide with stitching that’s supposedly so subtle it’s barely visible.
And because I also had a go at this marvel of a bag, I can attest to everything she’s said. It’s also super lightweight, and because it only comes in matte black with palladium hardware, everything’s just oh-so-sleek-stunning at the same time. I am hoping that purists will be turned off by this variation and allow mere commoners like me a chance at getting a bag that while doesn’t look exactly like the original anymore, is still a beautiful interpretation that needs to be celebrated. In my hands, of course.
All I want for Christmas is a Birkin! For those of us who are more visionary than realistic about joining the Birkin-owners club, we’re taunted by these horror stories of immense price tags, limited selections, and what sounds like an endless waiting list to get your name on the infamous “Waiting List”. Confusing much?
Black pebbled leather with complimenting gold toned hardware shouts classic and is guaranteed to remain in your collection for many years to come. Do note that this Birkin isn’t new and perhaps you won’t go through the unique boutique experience; but if you’re eager and privileged, you should check out this beauty now before it’s gone.
Asides the complexity of owning a ready-to-wear Hermes bag, it’s the exclusivity of this fine luxury product and superb craftsmanship that continues to stimulate the Hermes bag phenomenon amongst the fashion world. What Goes Around Comes Around, a chic leader in vintage treasures is offering this gem to the fashionista who’d rather not go through the overwhelming waiting course.

NEW Apple Watch Hermes

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Today during Apple’s product launch event, Apple and Hermes announced they’re teaming up on the latest installment of the tech giant’s timepiece. The “Apple Watch® Hermès” is crafted in stainless steel and features iconic leather band styles from Hermes including the Single Tour, Double Tour, and Cuff. That’s right – you can now pair your favorite Hermes watch styles with cutting edge mobile technology!

The Apple and Hermes collaboration may come as a surprise. Hermes is known for their classic, timeless luxury products, while Apple continues to push the edge with their cutting edge technology, but the pairing may not be as odd as you think. Both are at the pinnacle of their respective industries. As quoted by Apple chief design officer, Johnathan Ive:

“Apple and Hermès make very different products, but they reflect the deep appreciation of quality design. Both companies are motivated by a sincere pursuit of excellence and the desire to create something that is not compromised. Apple Watch Hermès is a true testament to that belief.”

There is no doubt the move could prove risky for both companies. Neither has a significant record engaging in collaboration and both are known for their insular design process. But there’s the potential for a win-win to emerge. For Apple, they gain the credibility with top-dollar spenders Hermes offers as it tries to compete with more renowned luxury watch companies and distance itself from tech competitors like Samsung. And Hermes gains a whole new audience for their exquisite goods. While most PurseBop readers are all too familiar with the luxury brand, their reach only extends into a very tiny set of households with an extremely elevated brand consciousness. In collaborating with Apple, Hermes gains the recognition of many individuals who have the money to spend, but have never considered entering an Hermes boutique.

Apple and Hermes both strive for elegance and functionality. Did  they hit the mark with their latest joint venture? Can you see yourself buying one instead of another luxury watch in the same price range? I can say that personally, I never imagined I would be in the market for an Apple Watch, but now that my beloved Hermes is involved, I may consider one…

Gold, S&P 500, or Hermes Birkin?

Categories:Other Brands

What will you do with the money if you win the Powerball tonight? Perhaps you want to know what to do with that end-of-year bonus and tax refund. Purse aficionados considering stashing assets in gold or the S&P 500 might want to think again. It turns out the “safest and least volatile” investment of those three may be in the bag…the Hermes Birkin bag.

As reported in racked.com, the Baghunter compared investment returns on gold, the S&P 500, and the Birkin over the last 35 years, and the Birkin was the clear winner.  In that time, the Birkin increased in value more than 500% and has never decreased even in times of recession and economic difficulty. Baghunter says the Birkin averaged annual value increases of 14.2%, significantly higher than either gold or S&P 500.

Baghunter founder Evelyn Fox told luxurydaily.com “As a whole, the study findings show how stable the ultra-luxury industry has been over the past 35 years when compared to more traditional investment opportunities.”  According to Fox, “There is a difference between luxury and ultra-luxury. While the luxury market suffers during worse economic times the ultra-luxury market is impervious to economic factors that can affect other industries such as high-street retail and stock markets.”

Fox expects this trend to continue in 2016, pointing to the Birkin’s high retail prices and limited availability along with a strong secondary market from resellers.
